Gummy Bear Party is a party game Roblox experience that is loosely based on the popular Gummibär series starring the Gummibär character. The game was developed by Canadian videogame company Freeground with a signed license of Gummybear International, Inc., and was initially released to the general public on March 28, 2024 in a phase of beta, alongside being announced with Gummibär's Official Server. On April 10, 2024, the game closed its beta phase and was finally made available for anyone to play. It is the only official Gummibär experience on the Roblox platform to be publicly known.

The gameplay of Gummy Bear Party consists of a three-dimensional online multiplayer party game where players can participate on various mini-games where each player competes to be the winner by achieving objectives provided by the mini-games. Playing mini-games will benefit the player to obtain points depending on their score, and use these points to unlock rewards that are exclusive to the game. The game also offers monthly events that occasionally are hosted inside the game, typically being free user-generated content accessories that the player can claim after reaching a number of goals and use them to wear on their avatar.

The player is presented with a quick introduction on the game when playing for the first time, which can be optionally skipped by the player itself. It provides a brief information and tutorial on how to earn tokens, play mini-games and unlock rewards. After completing the introduction, the player will be transported to a small, nighttime city scenario which would be the central place of the main map. One of the first other zones of the main map, being the jelly zone which is connected with the central place in a tunnel, can be unlocked at level 5. Most of the other zones require a higher level of the player to be unlocked, otherwise they will remain locked, making them unaccesible for the player.

To play mini-games, the player must click the orange button with the text that reads "Play Minigames!" above the screen. It will open a text box where the player can choose which mini-game to queue. Once selected, a 45-second countdown starts for the selected mini-game to begin. Otherwise, the player can also cancel the queue to select other mini-game. After the countdown ends, the player will be teletransported to the selected mini-game. After playing one of the mini-games, a text box will appear that shows the player's earned points throughout the round and experience points rewarded, depending on its score.

Virtual currency[]

In Gummy Bear Party, there is a virtual currency known as the Gummy Tokens. This currency allows the player to purchase milestones that require to be obtained with a certain amount of tokens and virtual pets that can be used as companions. Gummy Tokens can be earned by the player by bouncing on top of various props that can be done in the main map. Some of these props require a certain amount of times that they need to be smashed in order to award the player with tokens once broken. Depending on the zones located in the main map that require a higher level, the props on those zones will have more probabilities to award the player more tokens than usual.

In most zones, there are a couple of DJ stands with the shape of Gummibär's mouth. These DJ stands can be used to play vinyl records of several Gummibär-related songs that will cause the player to earn 1 point every second in the process. The player can check the amount of tokens they have collected currently in the right side of the screen. Once the vinyl record stops playing the song, the amount of tokens that appear in the right side of the screen will stop increasing. From that point on, the player must return to the location where he inserted the record on the DJ stand to reedem the tokens they have collected throughout the song. Leaving the game without reedeming the earned tokens will cause them to be lost.

Mini-games[]

Nuki Nuki[]

Nuki Nuki Gameplay

In the Nuki Nuki mini-game, each player is assigned with a single color of a pacifier named Nuki, in which they have to catch a single nuki of their respective color to earn one point. However, if the player collects a nuki from a different color that has not been assigned to them, it will decrease their points, while collecting larger nukis of their color will grant the player 5 additional points. Collecting as many nukis as possible will not only increase the player's points, but also surpass other players that are collecting nukis of their color depending on how many nukis the player has.

The nukis appear continuously from the sky by an airplane that is flying around the map, and they dissappear every 30 seconds if they are left intact. Occasionally, when festive events are hosted in-game, the mini-game can also partially change the appearance of the Nuki pacifiers to a different object.

Kiki Riki[]

In the Kiki Riki mini-game, the player is tasked to throw eggs at the other players, which are their opponents. If the player is able to throw as many eggs as possible than any other player in the round, they will be proclaimed as the winner. The player can throw eggs by clicking the screen, throwing eggs to the opponents will cause the player to obtain more points, while their opponents will be affected with a lower and blurry vision and run slower. Initially, when the mini-game starts, each player is assigned automatically with 26 eggs left to throw. However, the player can easily run out of eggs if all of these are thrown to the other players. The player can recharge their amount of eggs by picking up eggs laying on the ground that are continuously dropped by the chickens that walk around the map.

There are also several chicken coops on the map, which the player can break them by bouncing on the top of them. Doing this will cause the player to be assigned with a Roster Minigun once they are completely broken, which works as a kind of launcher weapon using a chicken that the player can use to shoot eggs quickly to other players. The amount of eggs that can be launched using this weapon are unlimited, however, the player can only take advantage from using this weapon for only 8 seconds, in which after this counter runs out, it will cause the weapon to disappear and return the chicken coops to their original state, returning to the traditional gameplay.

Around the map, there are some red targets that could be also used to throw eggs at it and obtain points. This technique is typically only used when playing in a solitaire round.

I'm A Gummy Bear[]

In the I'm A Gummy Bear mini-game, each player is assigned with a vehicle that can be driven by themselves, while a green arrow will pop up above of their head. This arrow will guide each player to search every large token that has been dropped around the map and collect them to obtain one point. There are also ramps in several roads that could boost the velocity of the vehicle. The player with the most collected tokens will be proclaimed as the winner of the round.

Bubble Up[]

In the Bubble Up mini-game, each player is assigned with a single color of the bubbles, in which they have to color every single bubble that are being spit by a large goldfish on the map to obtain points. However, other players can also replace the player's colored bubbles with their assigned color, causing the obtained points from coloring the bubbles to decrease. The player can also do this with other players in order to get as many bubbles as possible. The player with the most colored bubbles on the map will be proclaimed as the winner of the round.

Collectibles[]

The game has a unique feature called collectibles, which consists of several collectible objects that are around the main map, where the player is tasked from searching and collecting them. These objects usually can be easily found in the lobby, however, there are other ones that are pretty well hidden around the rest of the map and require more time to find them. They were first introduced in the game on September 4, 2024.[1]

Once the player has collected a certain amount of collectibles, they can use them to be able to ask Gummibär to check how many collectibles the player has collected in order to unlock a specific zone. If the player has not collected enough collectibles, unlocking the zone will be denied. They can also be potentially used as emotes to show off the player's collected collectibles.

Some of the other collectibles being the vehicles, wooden crates, fire hydrants, etc., require a certain number of times to be collected. For example, if a vehicle requires 5 times to the player to be able to collect it, the player will have to bounce on top of every car that is on the lobby multiple times to break them until it reaches to 5 vehicles collected.

Badges[]

Badges are a feature in the Roblox platform that can serve the function of achievements which the player can earn by completing a specific task or challenge inside of the game. After earning a badge, it will appear on the section of user-generated badges on the player's profile on the platform, which could work as an indicator of a player's mastery in a specific game. In Gummy Bear Party, some of these badges may or not be complicated to earn in the process. Below is a list of every badge that has been introduced in the game or have not been used as of currently:

GB Party Free UGCs

A collection of 5 UGC accessories that were obtainable by the player for free by completing specific goals offered by each event for only a limited time.

Since the game's official launch, there have been multiple events that were hosted inside the game. These events consist in large part of user-generated content (UGC) accessories that can be obtained by the player usually by completing specific goals and use them to wear for their character appearance on the Roblox platform. These accesories are commonly set available for a limited period of time, with a specific amount of copies left. Thus meaning that if the amount of copies get sold out, the accessories cannot be claimed anymore in the game. However, it can be bought by other people who are selling their claimed copies with a established amount of Robux, which is the primary currency of the Roblox platform.

These UGC limited accessories events are done to attract more players to play the game, which could also imply the reason of its widespread popularity. One of the first events hosted in the game started off on April 10, 2024, with a set of three limited UGC accessories that could be obtained for free by completing a series of goals.

History[]

Prior to the official release of the game, there have been multiple unofficial games uploaded by the players that did not have any license with Gummybear International, Inc. While there was not any instances regarding an official Roblox experience, an official YouTube subchannel of humorous content named Gummy Memes used to start a series of livestreams playing Pet Simulator in 2018. The footage of the livestreams showed a Roblox account named OfficialGummyBear that was being used to play the game, which has been known for a long time as to be the only official account that was being run by the staff.

Development[]

Some of the first instances of a mention regarding to the game ocurred on June 14, 2023, when a licensing magazine company named Total Licensing published a magazine reporting about Epic Story Media unveiling their catalog of new entertainment properties they have signed at Licensing Expo.[2] One of the properties that spotlighted the most in the Gummibär community was that the Gummibär brand had an engagement with a Canadian videogame company named Freeground, who they were best known for being involved with the development of various Roblox experiences, stating that both were engaged in the development of a possible Roblox experience based on the franchise. This magazine would later be discovered by the Gummibär community on October 7, 2023, attracting several people to know more information about the possible game.

Nothing much has been know relating to the game since then, until half a year later on March 26, 2024, the Gummibär social media accounts made a post hinting about "big" news coming soon on Thursday, specifically being on March 28, 2024.[3] This post would spark the curiosity of multiple people wondering about what could the new project be, but nothing else from the post has been surfaced until a couple of days later.

On March 26, 2024, the news were finally revealed to the public, announcing the release of Gummy Bear Party, which was launched on a early stage of development known as the beta phase. This would not only be the single announcement, as it was also introduced the opening of Gummibär's Official Server, which serves as the official centralized place of virtual community instant messaging that is hosted on the Discord platform, where it was also included a specific channel to discuss about the game, being known as the #🧱gb-roblox texting channel. This server would also help the game to announce multiple up-to-date news regarding the game to its general public, and recieve a number of suggestions made by the people.

On April 10, 2024, the game has closed its beta to move into the product release phase, where it would start the advertising of the game. To widely advertise the game, they released a video trailer on YouTube showing gameplay of Gummy Bear Party.[4] They also introduced what would it be the first event that was hosted inside the game, offering three user-generated content (UGC) exclusive accessories that were only obtainable in the first days of release by completing a number of objectives. This event would encourage more players to play the game in large part because of its exclusive limited items.

Throughout 2024, the game has succesfully engaged a large number of players to play it, in most part because of its UGC limited events that were usually hosted monthly. While the game has been recieving multiple updates to mantain the activity of the players, the amount of active players playing the game constantly decreased in some instances, which could be implied because of how most of the target audience was following the game only because of its UGC limited events. On August 20, 2024, Gummy Bear Party has officially reached one million of visits on the Roblox platform.[5]

Around July 2024, the game was suddenly renamed to "Minigame Festival: Gummy Bear'', then "Gummy bear: Party Simulator", and "Gummy Bear Crash Party", sparking further curiosity among the community about what could have been the reasons for these changes. The people involved in the development of the game eventually stated on Gummibär's Official Server that it was mostly done to attract more players' attention.[6]

Reception[]

Gummy Bear Party has been widely recieved positively among Roblox players, especially by the Gummibär community. This was due in large part to being the first official Roblox video game that is entirely based off the Gummibär franchise, which has made a significant impact on players, as the Gummibär character is commonly associated with popular culture and the Internet phenomena through his trademark song I Am A Gummy Bear (The Gummy Bear Song), which has been cherised by many people with a sense of nostalgia. The game has occasionally been actively played by players specifically on events consisting of UGC limited items that were frequently hosted in the game, serving as a kind of collectible and feature to resell towards other players.

Despite the game has been cherised by many people since its official release, there were also negative opinions regarding it. Players have been aware of how the game had a plenty of bugs in earlier updates which, in some cases, would make the game unplayable. Although most of these issues have been already fixed by developers in the following updates, new bugs would emerge being discovered by the players. Some players have accessed cheating in the game (or alternatively known as exploiting) by using third-party programs that would alter the gameplay, benefiting players to achieve higher levels and points in the least effortful way. This has been heavily criticized by other players, as this could ruin the experience of regular players by achieving objectives with their effort and precision. Similar to the former bugs of the game, most of these exploits have been patched and can no longer be executed inside of the game. However, players have been still searching different methods to break the boundaries of the gameplay.

Trivia[]

  • Some of the collectibles that can be obtained inside the game are based on real life Gummibär merchandising products that were released. The bobblehead, DVDs, stuffed toys and stickers are some of the collectibles that are notably inspired from existing products.
    • Additionally, some of these collectibles may have an alternative format from their original ones. These include the La La Love To Dance album, which is featured in the game as a vinyl record. However, a vinyl format has been never produced nor released in the real world.
  • Most of the models for the objects that appear in the game are re-used from actual animated music videos. Some of these include the Nuki pacifier, which is notably re-used from its HD remake of the music video for Nuki Nuki (The Nuki Song).
  • Despite the appearance of the Gummibär character features a completely redesigned model in the game, there are a couple of UGC accessories that re-use the original model normally used in the mainline music video series, such as "Giant Gummibär Head" and "Gummy Bear Pumpkin Head".
  • The main music of the game that typically plays on the main map partially uses the melody of the song I Am A Gummy Bear, specifically in the parts where Gummibär would sing the lyrics "Oh I'm a gummy bear, yes I'm a gummy bear. Oh I'm a yummy, tummy, funny, lucky gummy bear".
  • When the player bounces on the top of any breakable object in the main map, it will make a pop sound once it is broken. This sound is quite reminiscent of the iconic pop sound that plays at the beginning of the song I Am A Gummy Bear and throughout the rest of the refrains in the lyrics.
  • Most of the original music produced exclusively for the game were produced by Maci Schneider[7], who is best known for being the person involved with most of the music performed by Gummibär and being the primary singing voice of the character.
  • Some of the emotes that can be used by the player in the game are references to several media. The emotes "Robot", "BumpShake" and "FingerSpin" are all references to the music video of I Am A Gummy Bear.
    • The name of the "Alive" emote could be interpreted as a reference to the song Stayin' Alive, which would be famously known due to it being featured in the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever. The movements of the emote could also give away the reference.
  • FishBowlComparison

A comparison between the unreleased version (left) of the model and the touched up version (right) that ended up being used for the final UGC accessory.

Before the official release of the fish bowl UGC accessory for the Bubble Up event, an early version of the model was leaked online without authorization. Because of this, a touched up variant of the model was later made and uploaded to the Roblox platform, being currently what it is the final item that was released to the public. However, the unreleased version of the model that was uploaded prior to the final version ended up being renamed to "Gummibär's Official Leaked Fish Bowl"[8], and can be bought by resellers. Some of the most noticeable changes between these models are:
    • The number of bubbles were reduced in the final version, from 6 to 5.
    • The skin color of the goldfish appears with a lighter orange tone. Its UV mapping appears to have been rotated upside down in the later version.
  • GummyPartyGelatin

A closer look at the hidden baseplate.

A baseplate with a single purple gelatin was left underwater that can be seen near to the Bubble Up zone.
