Funny DJ (RƎMIX) is an electronic pop song performed by Gummibär released in an animated music video form on the YouTube platform on April 18, 2024[1], and was eventually released to the GummyRadio channel[2] and Japan streaming platforms[3] on April 25, 2024. On April 26, 2024, the single was released to the rest of streaming platforms internationally.[4]

The song takes direct inspiration of the 1999 song Daddy DJ, which was originally written by David Le Roy and Jean Christophe Belval, treating as a kind of cover in a Gummibär-like musical style. It is also considered as a remixed version from the original cover song Funny DJ, which was initially featured in the I Am Your Gummy Bear album, reinterpreting it with an electronic and modern style.

Before the song was unveiled to the general public, a couple of hints behind its production started circulating online in August 2023, when the Gummibär X account made a post regarding a new "mysterious" remix based on a previously released song being on the works.[5]

Lyrics[]

Funny DJ, please take me to the party
And let me dance along until the lights are on
Funny DJ, please take me to the party
And let me dance along until the lights are on
Funny DJ, please take me to the party
And let the music play, until the break of day
You leave me once again home alone
The fridge is full but my heart is achin'
You think I can make it on my own
Just a kiss and you are gone
Why don't you keep me close to you?
I'm not anymore the kid you knew
Why should I stay deep in the blue?
I wanna move my body too
Funny DJ, please take me to the party
And let me dance along until the lights are on
Funny DJ, please take me to the party
And let the music play, until the break of day
La li DJ, da doo dee da dee DJ
Da doo dee da dee dee, dee doo da dee doo
La li DJ, da doo dee da dee DJ
Da doo dee da dee dee, dee doo da dee doo
Why don't you keep me close to you?
I'm not anymore the kid you knew
Why should I stay deep in the blue?
I wanna move my body too
Funny DJ, please take me to the party
And let me dance along until the lights are on
Gummy DJ, please take me to the party
And let me dance along until the lights are on

Trivia[]

General[]

  • This is the first song and music video to be released in 2024.
    • It is also the first music video to be released during the newly launched Gummibär's Official Server. Because of this, the video was premiered in real time on a voice channel of the Discord server, with multiple people watching it.

Callbacks[]

  • In the scene where Gummibär uses the tuba as a kind of backpack, some recognizable objects from previous music videos can be seen. These include a small, blocky design of Gummibär that was used for the Roblox version of I Am A Gummy Bear, and a purple Nuki pacifier that was originally seen in the music video for Nuki Nuki (The Nuki Song).
  • In the scene where Gummibär doubles up and they start dancing, there is a brief moment where he strikes a pose that is quite reminiscent of the original 30-second short of I Am A Gummy Bear, where he grabs his belly while pointing upward with his other hand.
  • The beginning of the song features the same riser sound effect from its leading original version.

Production[]

  • According to Product Manager known online as gummydude, clarified in Gummibär's Official Server that there was at some point a whole different plot for the music video during its production, with only having a full animatic done to propose the idea. However, this obviously did not end up seeing the light of day and was instead replaced by a different plot that would eventually become the final version.[6]

Errors[]

  • The original YouTube upload for the music video was errouneously titled "Funny DJ (Gummy DJ Remix)" in its description, before it was later changed after several people pointed out the error. Now simply being "FUNNY DJ (RƎMIX)". This was stated to be not intentional.[7]
