Christian Philipp Schneider (also credited as simply Papabär and Gumi Papa) is a Serbian-born composer, producer and writer for most of the songs of the Gummibär series. He is the creator of the Gummibär character and the succesful song I Am A Gummy Bear. A resident of Germany, Christian would later found the company Gummybear International, which would be charged to produce a large amount of Gummibär-related products. He is also known for creating the Paperotti character, which is one of the subbrands by Gummybear International and Mister Goulash, a personal separate project.

Christian is also known to be the father of Maci Schneider[1], who helped him to provide the voice of Gummibär in the songs and most of other English-speaking appearances, as well as for foreign languages, such as German, Hungarian, etc.

History[]

Christian was born on April 25, 1952 in Vojvodina, Yugoslavia. Before going into the music business, he used to work as a tax attorney. Christian would eventually become a resident of Germany.

Christian developed an interest in the production, writing and composition of music and music videos in 1982. He co-produced the 1989 animated film Felix the Cat: The Movie along with Don Oriolo. He also was an owner of the company Animation Film Cologne and worked for 3 years together with the Hungarian animator Ferenc Rófusz. One of his other contributions as a music producer, video producer and composer for other artists were Big Tony, Tina Charles, Sash, BlackBlood, Lambada, Gloria Gaynor, Mapouka, Bobby Womack, Cutis Mayfield, Gil Scott-Heron, Rufus Thomas, Myriam "Morea" Abel.

In late 2005, Christian was at a restaurant in Germany, where he met a woman bartender. In a whimsical moment, she referred to him as her gummy bear. Taken aback, Christian initially responded with disbelief, uttering, "No...what?" However, in the very next moment, he playfully retorted, "I'm your gummy bear". This simple interaction sparked a brilliant idea in Christian's mind, and he promptly recorded a tune on his old Sony Walkman.[2] This would lead to the creation of the song and music video for I Am A Gummy Bear and the character.

Christian would later begin working on the concept of the Gummibär character along with the lyrics, composition, and sound recordings of the song. His son Maci Schneider was involved by providing his voice for the character and producing the music.

In 2007, Christian would found the company Gummybear International with Jürgen Korduletsch as the executive head, where it would be used to produce and release a large amount of Gummibär-related products in subsequent years. He also created other subbrands for the company that would serve as the branch-outs of the Gummibär series, such as Paperotti, Baba Cacao, Mister Goulash, etc.

In 2017, he opened a bar restaurant named Mister Goulash Kft., which is located in Hungary, Badacsonytomaj.
